VYI Wrestling is for boys and girls in elementary and middle school of all ability levels. The Spring wrestling season runs late-March/April through May with practices typically on Mondays and Thursdays 6:30-8pm at Madison High School. The first practice will be Monday April 6th at Madison HS. Financial aid is available.
March 24th 6:30-8pm, we will be holding a free “Intro to Wrestling” practice at Madison HS. This practice is open to any children in elementary or middle school. This is a great opportunity to learn more about wrestling, the Firebirds team, and try out a wrestling practice. If you aren’t sure about registering for wrestling, give the intro practice a shot before committing. Shorts and t-shirt required. There will be grip socks available, or wear your own you may have from a trampoline park.
Many parents and kids want to try the sport before committing to the season. There is now a way to do that. You just need a t-shirt and shorts to join in. Make sure to follow directions during registration regarding reaching out to a team contact to coordinate a practice day.
During school breaks, especially Summer, there are a couple Vienna groups that run youth wrestling camps. Check their pages through out the year for updated schedules. Keep an eye on their pages for updates. We also try to send a heads up to our email list when camp info becomes available.
We occasionally hold free "Intro to Wrestling" clinics. They are helpful for families considering the sport or new wrestlers that want to start before an upcoming season. Learn about the sport and the Firebirds, practice some basics, and have FUN! Invite your friends and other families to try wrestling. No clinics are currently scheduled. Signup for the Email List to be notified when one becomes available.
The regular season is from November through Frebruary, focusing on Folkstyle wrestling, the dominant style of wrestling in the US and practiced in schools. Registration begins in early Fall.
In the Spring we focus on Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling styles. These are styles practiced internationally and can be seen in the Olympics. Registration begins after the regular season ends in late February.

Our goal is to teach and encourage a love for the sport of wrestling - the oldest sport in the world. Wrestling teaches a mental and physical discipline unlike any other sport and establishes character traits and skills that are applicable to all aspects of life and which extend well beyond the years spent on the wrestling mat.
