VYI Lacrosse is pleased to announce the schedule for our fall lacrosse clinics.  This is a great way for experienced players to keep their stick skills sharp, and for new players to experience the game in a non-competitive environment. 
 
Clinics are scheduled for Sunday afternoons at Cunningham Park Elementary School off of Park Street.   Anyone interested should register online by clicking the 'REGISTER ONLINE' option on our website: VYILacrosse.org.

We will be offering the following clinics:
 
Little Lax – Our Little Lax program is designed for our youngest players – those entering Kindergarten and the 1^st grade this fall.  This clinic is a fun, non-contact introduction to the game of lacrosse.  No equipment, other than a lacrosse stick, is required. 
 
There will be five Sunday sessions, starting on 26 September and continuing through 24 October.  Little Laxers will participate from 3:30 – 5:00PM and the cost is only $50.
 
Girls Lax Clinic – This clinic is for girls who are currently 7 – 14 years old.  Participants will be grouped by age and experience level -- new players are welcome!  A girls' lacrosse stick, goggles and mouth guard are required to participate.

There will be six Sunday sessions starting on 19 September and running through 24 October.  While subject to change clinic times are: 

U09 & U11 - 12:30 - 02:00PM
U13 & U15 - 02:00 - 03:30PM

Age groups are based on 2011 Spring season ages.  (Don't sweat the small stuff.  Just come to a session that's appropriate for your age, size and experience.)  The cost is $75.
 
Boys Lax Clinic – This clinic is for boys who are currently 7 – 14 years old.  Participants will be grouped by age and experience level -- new players are welcome!  Full equipment is required (lacrosse stick, helmet, gloves, arm pads, shoulder pads, mouth guard, athletic cup) to participate. RENTAL EQUIPMENT IS AVAILABLE FOR AN ADDITIONAL FEE.  Please contact Tom Hanton, our Equipment Manager, at , for further information.

With the 2010 Spring season coming to a close, it's time to bring back your rental equipment.  This year we will have two rental return sessions at the VYI Annex behind the Community Center:

06/22, Tuesday, from 5:30PM - 7:30PM
06/27, Sunday, from 9:00AM - 11:00AM

What to do before you return your gear:

• Wash (air dry) your son's gloves and arm pads
• Tie the gloves together
• Attach the arm pads together with the velcro straps

Off-Season Equipment Rental Options

What's that you say?  You just can't live without that smelly gear lying around the house?  Your child needs gear for camps, summer/fall leagues, or back yard pickup games?  Don't you worry.  VYI Lacrosse has you covered.

We offer an off-season rental program.  The cost is $50 and you can renew your rental online.  Go to the VYI lacrosse website, click the REGISTER ONLINE tab and choose the 2010 Off-Season Lacrosse Equipment Rental option.  (Or just click here if you want to do this now before you forget.)  This will let you keep your gear through the Summer and Fall with returns due in December. 

Didn't rent during the Spring season but need equipment for a camp or off-season league?  No problem.  You can use the same online registration system.  Equipment rental pick up dates and times are the same as those for rental returns above.  See you at the Annex!

Dear Parents and Coaches,

VYI has received some complaints concerning the behavior of some parents, coaches and/or children using area sports facilities. While many of these complaints are eventually discovered to be related to other sports that are not related to VYI, we want to ensure our members continue to be respectful of the neighborhoods, schools, and parks that host our practices and events. Some of the specific complaints we’ve received include:

• Parking in front of neighborhood houses and obstructing resident access
• Walking through private property
• Generally disturbing the peace and quiet of the people living around the fields and gyms

As stated previously, we don’t know if any of the incidents reported involve VYI parents, coaches or children but it is appropriate that we establish guidelines so that everyone knows what is expected of them. Anything a parent, coach or player does while attending a VYI activity reflects on VYI and all of us individually.

Use of area gyms and fields is a privilege not a right. VYI has an excellent reputation in the community and because of that we enjoy certain privileges. It is imperative that we maintain this reputation. We are guests in these neighborhoods and must conduct ourselves accordingly.

We will be amending the parents Code of Conduct rules to spell out specific expectations but here are some rules that we must all follow:

• Parking on residential side streets is only permitted when all lots adjacent to a facility are full.
• Do not park in the designated SACC (School Age Child Care) parking areas in school parking lots
• When it is necessary to park on a neighborhood street we must be quiet and respectful of the residents and their property. This means there should be no yelling, littering or trespassing on private property.
• Never park in such a way as to block a driveway or otherwise obstruct the resident from leaving their home or parking in front of it.
• Make sure we leave each facility clean and free of trash.
• Be a leader. If you witness inappropriate behavior intervene and report to a coach or commissioner as appropriate.

We appreciate your support in ensuring that we have continued access to the facilities that are vital to our sports programs.

Hopefully everyone who purchased team or individual pictures from picture day has received their orders by now.  If not, please contact your team’s coach first to inquire about their availability.  (If any coach has not received their team pictures, please contact Julie Headley, who is in charge of Awards and Trophies for VYI Lacrosse.  You will find Julie’s contact info on the CONTACTS page of the VYI Lacrosse website.) 
 
Our photographer, Glenn Lydell of Lydell Photography, wants to make sure everyone is satisfied with their pictures.  With over 500 kids in the VYI Lacrosse program, it is possible that an issue may arise.  If parents have any issues, concerns or questions, they may contact Lydell Photography directly at 540-809-8536 or www.lydellphotography.com.

Finally, there have been several inquiries about the availability of team plaques.  Lydell offers a 9”x12” plaque, with a 8”x10” team photo, for $25.  You may contact Lydell directly for these and any other custom items you might want.

VYI Lacrosse does not have a centralized lost and found.  Instead, we rely on our lacrosse community to take care of each other.  So what do you do if you find something left over at a practice or game field, or leave something of your own? 

In either case you can let your fellow laxers know what's up by posting a notice in our "Exchange."  This special bulletin board lets folks post updates on lost or found items that are easily accessable to all VYI laxers. 

But that's not all the Exchange can handle!  Recently uniforms were distributed to all players.  Got a #12 in a men's small and think a medium might be a better fit?  Why not use the Exchange to let folks know?  ONE CAVEAT:  You can not swap for just any number.  Duplicate numbers are not allowed and your coach should have already loaded your child's number into the roster.  So ... make sure, if you work out a swap, that it is for the same number.

Finally, folks who want to sell, buy or give away used equipment should consider using the Exchange as an online swap shop.  This is a great way for the community to support it's members.

All VYI families can update their contact information: addresses, phone numbers and e-mails at any time.  Here's how:

1) Click on the 'Edit My Account' button at the bottom of the lower left hand menu options.
2) Enter your e-mail address and password.  (Don't know your password, just read the instructions above the data entry box.)
3) Click on any family member's name and you will have access to change what you need.

Keeping your information up to date is important.  All VYI sports rely on the contact information in our database and out dated information may cause you to miss important updates.
